New Jersey Liposuction Before and Afters

Liposuction

Liposuction is the most popular surgical procedure in the United States. In 2004 alone, almost 500,000 liposuction surgeries were performed. In the past, liposuction was considered a risky cosmetic procedure, but with surgical and technological advances, hundreds of thousands of liposuction procedures are performed safely every year. The procedure still has risks, however, but a qualified New Jersey liposuction surgeon can make sure all safety precautions are taken while achieving an aesthetically pleasing body contouring result.

Tumescent Liposuction Technique

There are different ways a New Jersey liposuction surgeon might perform the surgery. The tumescent liposuction technique is the most common type of liposuction, involving injections of a large amount of medicated solution into the areas prior to removing the fat. The mixture, including a local anesthetic, a drug that contracts the blood vessels and an intravenous salt solution, helps to numb the area during and after surgery, reduce the loss of blood, bruising and swelling and help remove the fat easier.

Super-wet Liposuction Technique

Since the tumescent liposuction technique generally takes longer than other types, some New Jersey liposuction patients will prefer a different procedure. The super-wet technique is similar to the tumescent, but this type of liposuction does not use as much fluid during the surgery, just an equal amount of fluid injected to equal the amount of fat to be removed. Though New Jersey liposuction patients can enjoy less time in surgery, the super-wet technique often requires sedation with an IV or general anesthesia.

Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction Technique

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction is a newer technique that uses ultrasonic vibrations to liquefy fat cells. Once the cells have become liquefied, they are vacuumed out. The procedure can either be done externally or internally, meaning above the surface of the skin with a special emitter or below the surface of the skin with a small, heated cannula.

This liposuction technique is sometimes combined with the tumescent technique in secondary procedures, or if precision is necessary. When dense, fibrous areas of the body are being removed, the ultrasound-assisted liposuction can sometimes be more efficient. Usually, ultrasound-assisted liposuction takes longer than the super-wet.

Benefits vs. Risks

The three different liposuctions will have different benefits and risks, and depending on the patient’s treatment area(s) and individual traits, as well as surgeon preference, the best course of action will be decided. Liposuction can pretty much be performed anywhere there is unwanted fat. Contrary to some beliefs, New Jersey plastic surgeons will not perform liposuction as a weight-loss procedure. The cosmetic surgery is intended as a way of removing unwanted deposits of excess fat in order to improve body appearance.

Commonly, liposuction is useful for contouring under the chin, neck, cheeks, upper arms, breasts, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankle areas. Liposuction has effectively minimized localized areas of unwanted fat, revealing a much more proportionate and pleasing appearance. Like all cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction patients must realize it is a serious surgical procedure that should be carefully thought out beforehand.
