Botox

Botox has quickly become the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures sought by men and women in the United States. In 2005 alone, more than three million Americans received Botox injections for cosmetic purposes.

Botox is a form of botulinum toxin that has been altered for therapeutic purposes. First used in the treatment of certain neurological disorders, Botox is now widely used for cosmetic purposes – especially in the treatment of wrinkles.

New Jersey Botox: Benefits

The goal of Botox injections is to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in certain areas of the face and neck but particularly around the eyes, mouth, and forehead. Botox not only relaxes the muscles that contribute to wrinkles, it also functions to prevent muscle contraction thereby preventing the formation of new wrinkles. Other benefits of Botox include:

  • Immediate results
  • Relatively safe
  • Virtually painless

Ideal candidates for Botox are adult men and women who have begun to develop the first visual signs of aging and who are also in optimal physical and emotional health. It is especially important for prospective patients to have clear and realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the procedure, and to weigh the possible benefits against the risks.

Though the risk of an adverse Botox side effect is rare, complications may occur. Potential side effects may include: headaches, respiratory problems, flu like symptoms, nausea, temporary bruising and/or bleeding, and drooling. Fortunately, most Botox patients experience no adverse reaction to the injections. Moreover, any side effects that may occur are typically only temporary since the effects of Botox are not lasting.

New Jersey Botox: The Procedure

Botox should always be administered by a trained cosmetic professional in a medical facility to avoid any unnecessary complications. A local numbing agent is applied to the treatment area prior to administration of the Botox treatment. Next, Botox is injected into the treatment site in a series of small shots. Depending on the area and number of sites being treated, the procedure can take between ten and forty minutes to complete.

After the procedure, a patient can resume normal activities almost immediately. The results are typically seen one to two days after the procedure was performed. Every three to four months, it is advantageous for patients to seek follow up Botox treatments in order to sustain the desired results.
