New Jersey Neck Lift Before and Afters
A neck lift may be a desirable cosmetic surgery option for people who wish to enhance the appearance of the neck and jaw line area. Obesity, aging, genetics, and a medical condition known as retrognathia (which causes the jaw line to recede) are all factors that can lead to diminished appearance in the neck area. Fortunately, such imperfections can be corrected through a neck lift procedure.
While a neck lift is ideal for enhancing the aesthetic features of the face, it does not specifically target or rejuvenate the facial area. A neck lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with complimentary procedures such as chin augmentation or a facelift to achieve a patient’s aesthetic goals.
New Jersey Neck Lift: The Procedure
A neck lift is typically performed on an outpatient basis under a general anesthetic so that the patient is asleep during the procedure. A cervicoplasty is performed first to remove excess skin in the neck area. The muscles of the neck are then altered through a small incision made under the chin. This is called platysmaplasty. Any fat in the area can be excised via liposuction through the same incisions used to manipulate the skin and muscles. Neck lift procedures generally take between two and three hours to complete.
After a neck lift, a patient should expect to stay home and recover for at least a week. Physical activities should be limited for the first month after the procedure. Immediately following a neck lift, patients typically experience some discomfort, which can be treated with pain medications. A patient may also develop swelling and bruising in the treatment area. However, these symptoms usually subside within a few weeks following the procedure. In order to maximize healing, it is important for patients to adhere to all after care instructions provided by the plastic surgeon.
As with all surgical procedures, a neck lift does carry a low risk of complications, including: anesthesia reaction, infection, hematoma, nerve injury, and excess scar tissue. Prior to undergoing a neck lift, patients should consult with their surgeon to weigh the risks and benefits of the procedure. Patients should also have a good understanding of what to expect before, during, and after the procedure so that they may have an optimal surgical experience.
Because a neck lift is an elective procedure, insurance typically does not cover its cost. The total cost of a neck lift is determined by a number of factors but generally ranges between $3,000 and $15,000.
